Jewelry box with gold and ivory pattern covered in red velvet
The idea of the decorated box takes its cue in the Florentine craft tradition from the ancient hope chest of 14th and 15th century Florence.
The box is gold plated with gold leaf.
Gold leaf plating requires a long and complex process.
The wooden object is covered by a layer of plaster on which gold leaf is applied, after sanding, with a hot tempera, and is subsequently burnished and patinated.
After applying the gold leaf, the object is ready for decoration, which is engraved with bronze chisels and punches.
